Casa Alegria
Casa Alegria Palmilla | 5-Bedroom Ocean-View Villa with Gym, Los Cabos
In Caleta, the quiet heart of Palmilla — and you can walk to everything
Casa Alegria sits inside Caleta, the gated enclave at the centre of Palmilla, a few minutes from the One&Only. It is a Spanish Colonial house with a Tuscan hand: stone columns, arched loggias, vaulted ceilings, oversized windows and a courtyard with its own colonnade. What it is not is a beach house — and we will say that plainly, because the address is worth more than the label.
What the address really gives you is that you can walk. Palmilla Beach is about five minutes on foot — the cove with calm turquoise water where people actually swim, snorkel and paddleboard, which most of this coastline does not allow. The Shoppes at Palmilla, the California Ranch Market for groceries and wine, the coffee shops and the restaurants are all walkable too. In Los Cabos, where almost everything needs a car, that is genuinely rare.
The short version: five bedrooms, all en-suite, five and a half bathrooms, room for fourteen guests, two connected pools with a waterfall, an elevated jacuzzi over the sea view, an outdoor gym and a private three-hole putting green.
Two pools joined by a waterfall
The terrace is laid in Cantera stone and the water is the centrepiece: an upper pool and a lower pool connected by a river-rock waterfall, with an elevated jacuzzi set above them looking out at the Sea of Cortez. Around it, eight loungers, a grand palapa with hammocks swinging in the sea breeze and a leather lounge underneath it, a fire pit, an outdoor sound system, and a Cantera table that seats eight for dinner in the open air.
At night the whole thing is lit and the facade reflects in the water. It is the reason half the photographs of this house are taken after sunset.
Two things this villa has that almost nobody else does
⭐ An outdoor gym. Not a treadmill shoved in a spare bedroom — a shaded, open-air space with a treadmill, an exercise bike, a yoga mat, an exercise ball, cushioned seating and privacy curtains. You train in the shade with the garden around you.
⭐ A private three-hole pitch-and-putt green in the grounds. For a group that came to Los Cabos for the golf, having somewhere to practise your short game between rounds — drink in hand, nobody waiting behind you — is not a small thing.
The kitchen was rebuilt, not refreshed
The kitchen is a new Italian Scavolini: a large centre island with seating, a Viking refrigerator, new stainless appliances, two sinks, a wine fridge and custom wood cabinetry. The dining furniture was replaced with it — a wood table for six under a large chandelier. A sliding glass door opens onto a second, fully equipped outdoor kitchen with a built-in grill, so a chef can cook out there while everyone stays at the table.
Five bedrooms, five en-suite bathrooms
- Master — king bed; en-suite with bathtub and shower.
- Bedroom 2 — king bed; en-suite with shower.
- Bedroom 3 — two queens and two twins; en-suite with shower.
- Bedroom 4 — two queens; en-suite with shower.
- Bedroom 5 — king bed; en-suite with shower.
Nobody in this house shares a bathroom. Every bedroom also has its own safe and its own stereo, and two of the suites open onto terraces with the Sea of Cortez in front of them.
Golf at Palmilla — what you can actually play
You can play Palmilla, and the course is the Ocean Course — the public one. It is nine holes, so a full eighteen means going round the same nine twice. Many guests are perfectly happy with that; some would rather not, which is why we say it before you book instead of after.
Since 1 January 2025 the Arroyo and Mountain courses are reserved for club members and One&Only Palmilla resort guests, so those two are no longer open to villa guests. If you want eighteen holes on a single layout, Club Campestre San Jose, Cabo del Sol and Puerto Los Cabos all take outside play and we will hold the tee times before you land.
And what the house gives you for nothing is the three-hole pitch-and-putt green in the garden — all week, drink in hand, nobody waiting behind you.
Inside
An 80-inch screen with surround sound in the living room, high-speed internet, zoned air conditioning throughout, an ice maker, a wine fridge, washer and dryer, and two ESPN channels carrying NFL and college football through Dish Network — which matters more than it sounds if your trip lands on a Sunday in the autumn.
What we can have ready before you arrive
A private chef or a Mexican cook, a butler for the day by the pool, groceries in the refrigerator, golf carts to move around Palmilla, transport from the airport, spa treatments at the house, boats and tee times. Tell us what the trip is for and we will put it in the right order.
Honest answers before you book
Is Casa Alegria on the beach?
No, and we would rather tell you now than have you arrive expecting it. It is an ocean-view villa, not a beachfront one. The sea is in front of you from the terrace, the pools and two of the bedrooms — but the sand is about a five-minute walk away. What you get in exchange is elevation, privacy, quiet, and the ability to walk to the beach, the shops and the restaurants instead of driving. If your family needs to step straight from the lawn onto the sand, say so and we will show you a beachfront house.
Is smoking allowed?
Smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the villa. Guests who wish to smoke may do so outside, in the open-air areas. It is an ocean-view villa, not a beachfront one. Can we swim at the beach nearby?
Yes. Palmilla Beach is one of the few genuinely swimmable beaches in Los Cabos — a protected cove with calm turquoise water, good for swimming, snorkelling and paddleboarding. Most of this coast is beautiful and completely unswimmable, so this is one of the reasons people choose Palmilla in the first place. Conditions still vary with the season, and your concierge will tell you how it looks during your stay.
Do all the bedrooms have their own bathroom?
Yes. All five bedrooms are en-suite, plus there is a half bathroom for the living areas — five and a half in total. Nobody in this house queues for a shower, which is unusual at fourteen guests.
How many people does it really sleep?
Fourteen. The bedrooms hold more beds than that on paper, but fourteen is the number the house is set up for and the number we will quote. If your group is larger, tell us the real figure before booking and we will find you a house that fits it properly.
Can we play the Palmilla golf course?
Yes. The Ocean Course is the public one and it is nine holes, so eighteen means playing the same nine twice. Since 1 January 2025 the Arroyo and Mountain courses are for club members and One&Only resort guests only. For a full eighteen on one layout, Club Campestre San Jose, Cabo del Sol and Puerto Los Cabos all take outside play and we book the tee times for you. The three-hole putting green in the garden is free and yours all week.
Can we eat at the One&Only Palmilla?
Reservations at the One&Only restaurants can be requested through your concierge, but they are granted at the hotel’s discretion and are never guaranteed. Ask us early rather than the night before, and we will also give you the restaurants in Palmilla and The Dunes that you can walk or golf-cart to without needing anyone’s permission.
Are the pools heated?
Ask us for your dates and we will confirm it in writing before you book. We are not going to promise heating on a page and let you find out in January — if pool heating matters to your trip, it is worth a direct answer, and there may be a charge for it.
Is there really a gym at the house?
Yes — an outdoor gym in a shaded, curtained corner of the garden, with a treadmill, an exercise bike, a yoga mat, an exercise ball and cushioned seating. It is not a hotel fitness centre with racks of weights; it is a place to run, ride, stretch and do yoga outdoors. If your training needs more than that, tell us and we will arrange a gym.
Are there stairs?
Yes. The house is built over two levels and the terraces step down between the two pools. It is not a single-level property. If someone in your group cannot manage stairs, say so before you book and we will show you a flat villa instead.
Can we bring a pet?
Please ask us. The answer depends on the property and the dates, and we confirm it in writing before you travel. Do not assume it either way from a listing.
Can we host an event or a celebration here?
The courtyard, the lawn and the terrace take a group comfortably, and the house is a natural fit for a birthday, an anniversary or a family reunion. Events are not automatic: they need approval in advance and Palmilla has its own rules on music and hours. Tell us what you are planning and we will confirm in writing what is possible before you commit to anything.
Events are not automatic: they need our written approval in advance, and an event fee, community permits and a damage deposit may apply.
Do we need a car?
Less than almost anywhere else in Los Cabos. The beach, The Shoppes at Palmilla, the market and several restaurants are walkable, and most of our guests rent a golf cart for the week instead of a car — we can have one waiting. For the airport and for trips into San Jose del Cabo or Cabo San Lucas, we arrange private transport.
How far is the airport?
Los Cabos International (SJD) is the closest airport and Palmilla is on that side of the Corridor, so it is one of the shorter transfers of any villa we manage. We can have a private vehicle waiting for you.
Ask us anything before you book
Blue Desert Cabo manages Casa Alegria and answers directly — no call centre and no form that disappears. Tell us the dates, how many are coming and what the trip is for, and we will tell you honestly whether this is the right house for it.
